It’s not wrong to say “That was a good trailer”, but it is wrong to eat into a company’s own predetermined hype. FMV trailers have existed for years, and have fooled millions. (This isn’t even talking about how “Zombies” have become a crutch for shitty games to sell perhaps even moreso than the good zombie games did in the first place.)
The weird thing about gaming expanding is that you suddenly have new people jumping right into this marketing blitz with no idea how to navigate it. Just earlier today I saw a 16-year-old preppy girl playing fanboy like it was the SNES vs. GENESIS era, except now she’s saying PS3 is “gay” while applying spray-on tan.
You just get a whole new generation of kids who are interested in gaming and too lazy to invest in it any further than the company line. It’s not wrong to be uninformed as a young entrant, but it is to blissfully stay that way.
